God Sees You – Even in the Little Things

April 09, 20255 min read

Have you ever wondered if God truly notices the small things in your life? The little cravings, the quiet needs, or even the struggles that no one else sees? It’s easy to feel invisible when you’re serving in ministry, facing challenges that others may never understand. But I’m here to remind you today that God sees you—not just in the big moments, but in the quiet, hidden ones too.

In this post, I want to share some personal stories of how God’s provision shows up in the little things, whether it's a craving for M&Ms or the creativity to turn an empty pantry into a beautiful meal. These small moments have been reminders of God’s love and care for us, even when we feel like we’re doing it all alone.

The "Haggard" Banquet Moment: A Lesson in Being Seen

A few years ago, I was back on furlough and attending a missions conference banquet. For the first time in a long while, I had the chance to dress up, wear makeup, and not be drenched in sweat. My director, who had been a missionary for years, said, “Wow, Angie, you look nice!”

I smiled and thanked him. Later, during the conference, he said, “Did you see Angie? She looks amazing tonight. Usually when I see pictures of her, she looks… well, haggard.”

Everyone laughed—but there was no humor in his comment. He wasn’t trying to be funny. He was honestly acknowledging the reality of my life as a missionary. My director and his wife had served as missionaries for years before becoming our directors, so they truly understood the challenges of this life.

In that moment, I felt seen. I wasn’t just a missionary doing my work—I was acknowledged as a person, and that felt good. It wasn’t about the compliment; it was about the truth in it. It was a reminder that God sees us in all our struggles, even in the small things that might seem insignificant to others. He sees you.

The M&Ms Moment: God Cares About the Little Things

One time, we had a team visiting, and I decided to place M&Ms on each bed as a little welcome treat. One of the girls teared up and said, “How did you know I was craving these?”

I hadn’t known. But God did.

This small, simple gesture became something much bigger. It wasn’t just about the M&Ms; it was about the love and care behind it. God spoke to me in that moment to bless her with something that felt like a comfort during a time of overwhelming need.

She wasn’t a missionary; she was visiting on a mission trip with her church group. They had already spent two weeks at another ministry, witnessing the extreme poverty in Mozambique. She was struggling with feeling guilty for wanting something small and comforting, like M&Ms, while being surrounded by the overwhelming needs of others.

That’s when I realized: It’s easy to fall into the spirit of poverty—feeling like we shouldn’t enjoy little comforts because there’s so much suffering in the world. But God cares about the little things. He doesn’t want us to feel guilty for wanting small comforts that refresh us. We can’t pour out to others unless we take care of our own needs too.

Homemade Pasta & God’s Provision

There was a time when we didn’t have enough food in the house. I was home alone, and the pantry was nearly empty. But I had some chicken, cabbage, spinach, garlic, flour, and a few tomatoes. I spent the entire day making homemade pasta. I sautéed the spinach with garlic, mixed it into the pasta, and cooked the chicken with marinara sauce.

It was hard work. And honestly, it took all day. But when my kids ate and they were full—and there was even enough leftover for another meal—I looked at God and said, “Thanks for that.”

In that moment, I was reminded of God’s provision. I had been struggling with spiritual warfare—feeling overwhelmed by fundraising challenges, not knowing how we would make it through. But God provided—not just one meal, but two. And my kids were happy, full, and proud of the meal, even though they had no idea how difficult things had been.

It wasn’t just about the pasta; it was about God showing up in a small, quiet way. He gave me the creativity, strength, and joy to make something out of nothing, and that was a reminder that He provides when we least expect it.

God Sees You in the Little Things

If you’re feeling unnoticed or like you’re doing all the right things but nothing seems to change, I want you to know: God sees you. He sees the big moments and the small ones. Whether it’s a craving for M&Ms, a long day on the mission field, or a difficult meal to prepare—God is there.

Sometimes we think that God only cares about the big, monumental things. But He also cares about the small details—those things that no one else might notice. And when you feel like you’re alone in the struggle, just remember: He sees you. He sees the little things, and He cares.
